Epewtün: An experience to think about the initial educational action with an intercultural perspective in the Mapuche context

Abstract

This article analyzes and describes an educational experience developed by Intercultural Preschool Educators in training in Victoria, Malleco Province, in La Araucanía Region. After explaining the historical context of the territory, the central aspects of Kimeltuwün, the teaching-learning methodology of Mapuche Kimün, Mapuche Knowledge, will be explained. We will establish some guidelines for educational work in the context of Intercultural Early Childhood Education in accordance with what is established in the respective Curriculum Bases. Subsequently, we will collect some concepts around the necessary dialogue of knowledge that must be established between both educational systems. From these conceptual inputs, we will proceed to detail the educational experience, called Epewtün. Finally, in the final considerations, we will reflect on the importance of highlighting the teaching methodologies of the Mapuche people for the development of a truly relevant intercultural educational action.
